The Taliban have committed countless atrocities against Hazaras. Such as in Bamiyan and in Yakawlang. Thousands of innocent Hazara men, women and children were killed.
The Taliban captured the city of Mazar e Sharif on August 8th, 1998. They then proceeded with their campaign of brutal killings. “Witnesses described it as a "killing frenzy" as the advancing forces shot at "anything that moved."
This was no indiscriminate massacre as the Taliban were selective about who they were after, the Hazara residents of Mazar were their prime target. The Hazaras were targeted due to their religious identity; being Shia Muslim.
“During the house-to-house searches, scores and perhaps hundreds of Hazara men and boys were summarily executed, apparently to ensure that they would be unable to mount any resistance to the Taliban.”
Hazaras were gunned down in front of their families or had their throats slit. “Others, thrown into the city's overcrowded jail, were executed by firing squads or crammed into tractor-trailers, where they sweltered all day in the summer sun -- doors shut...
... until most perished from suffocation or heat stroke. In the evenings, the heavy trucks hauled the bodies to the nearby desert and dumped them in heaps like trash, according to the reports.”
We will never forget the crimes that were committed against our people.
