In 1983 when the corruption was rife under Shagari with him still winning a reelection in a landslide (massive rigging) an people needed a Savior from a total collapse of the economy, Buhari came in. A young officer in his 40s, obviously very angry at the whole situation around.
He settled down to clean the systems. With his no Nonsense deputy, Idiagbon, no corrupt individual was going to be spared. Initially, people hailed him that the politicians were being dealt with while the hoarded items were being released to the people....the savior is here.
No one was expecting his cleaning will extend to the same people that were hailing him. Buhari seeing that almost everyone in the Nation was culpable for the situations they were in, he started instituting discipline among the citizens and he suddenly was losing popularity
Politicians hated him for obvious reasons, his fellow soldiers hv started feeling d sword will soon touch them because almost all were compromised during Shagari reign. Now the people, on whose behalf Buhari was doing everything, started hating him because they were being touched
People wanted to eat their cakes and have it. They don't want to be checked, they only wanted the politicians to be dealt with. Buhari didn't succeed because he followed his passions and was going to fix everything all at once. He wasn't a politician
Unlike Murtala who was very popular among the people for dealing with corrupt politicians and civil servants, Buhari went a step ahead to also correct ills among the people who would potenty become politicians and civil servants.

Buhari seems slow today because he has learnt
I see in him a man who is willing to fix all at once not sparing the people but he learnt the hard way that dealing with the people should be subtle. Even at subtle level, the people are still very angry with him. Same way the Israelites wanted moses' neck, Buhari is the enemy
Should all the politicians of today be executed, these undisciplined people will go on to replace them. Now tell me if we would hv achieved a thing.
You can now begin to see that, going at this pace with people not willing to change, redemption for Nigeria will be an uphill task
In all of the problems we currently face and the inevitability of the future challenges, we can't but keep hoping that Nigeria will be great. I still have a doubt in my mind though if democracy will give us the country we seek.

God bless the President, Buhari.

God bless NIGERIA
