Hello I am Exalted Speed I make thread on twitter about things, mostly related to geeky stuff but I'm a comic book buff. I see you made the mistake of saying "why doesn't Bruce Wayne use his MONEY to fix GOTHAM city?" Like your some clever person who just thinks this is original.
First your not, the comics have ADDRESSED THIS FOR YEARS in various ways. You can find examples of Bruce in tv, movies and comics helping out the poor using his money. But here's the truth Batman doesn't fight regular crime.
Batman is not the most realistic series. I mean look Batman has beaten Superman before, but Batman doesn't tend to fight people who are desperate for cash he tends to fight MURDER CLOWNS.
and here's the thing? A lot of his villains don't do things for MONEY. Some do but most are striking back at a world that has wronged them that has NOTHING TO DO WITH BRUCE'S WEALTH! Very few are into money many of them are into POWER.
and I will going down ALL THE MAJOR BATMAN VILLAINS I CAN THINK OF AND SAY MONEY WOULD NOT HELP! Let's start? I will even keep each one to one tweet.
This has been CANON for years but Joker does not have a set motivation except to mess with Batman. That is it. EVERYTHING ELSE CAN CHANGE AS LONG AS BATMAN SUFFERS. This has been SHOCKINGLY CONSISTENT. Bruce could give him money but that won't have stop him.
Mr.Freeze has bouts of nihilism brought on by the fact that he misses his WIFE and can't cure or do anything to help. Bruce in the past HAS TRIED AND THROWN MONEY AT THIS. In fact in Sub Zero Batman saved her.
The Penguin wants to be the one percent....like I know you want to too, but he like wants to be better then everyone else and tends to stomp on them and betray them. He doesn't even try to be a man of the people he wants people TO WORSHIP HIM!
Ra's Al Ghul is an immortal dude who wants to curb the human population and get his daughter laid. He's more like Dracula then a real person. Batman has even tried to help him with things out of the goodness of his heart. It never works out.
The Riddler just wants to prove how Smart he is. Like He just want to prove he is smarter then Batman. SOMEHOW. Guy even became a normal detective to try and ONE UP HIM. He doesn't GIVE A DAMN ABOUT A MONEY HE JUST WANTS TO PLAY CHESS WITH BATMAN!
Harley Quinn when she is a villain ONLY WANTS TO HELP THE JOKER. She is not in it for the money, she is not in it as a doctor, she is just hear for that clown. and Sometime Poison Ivy.
Posion Ivy is a weird plant mutant person who wants to KILL ALL HUMANS or at least make more plants and make them happy. Money could help with this but she makes like plants that are Trexes and other horrible nightmare creatures. Not something that could be fixed really.
Bane was raised in a prison because his dad decided to not serve time and so was FORCED TO SERVE INSTEAD and grew up not knowing love and just is like FUCK THE WORLD I'm going to do what I want and break the Batman using my super drugs...it's hard to sum up things in one tweet.
Firefly just wants things to burn....that's it. Nothing else. He just wants to burn everything and will use any excuse to do it.
So Two Face is a rare example of Bruce actually canonically in SEVERAL UNIVERSE trying to fix. He has used his money to fix his face, give him psychological treatment, and get this Two Face is just messed up enough that it just doesn't work. So yeah money didn't fix this.
The Polkadot man does just kind of sucks and we don't know even why he became a villain and just does it. I mean he just one day was like I'm going to use POLKADOTS TO COMMIT CRIME and that was it.
Killer croc is just a dude who apparently suffers from a skin condition that just makes him a crocodile dude and he just wants to take over the world, or throw a rock at Batman, or just be left alone. He's kinds of all over the place.
The most CONSISTENT THING ABOUT Selina Kyle in ALL HER INCARNATIONS is that she just wants to fuck Batman and in several instances married him. Or almost. Look her origin has CHANGED A LOT.
But let's break it down here and just talk Batman is not about seeing Batman fix everything, what Batman is about is putting him in a situation that is PSYCHICALLY, MENTALLY or MORALLY and seeing how he wins.
Batman's money is only ever used to explain HOW he became Batman. It's all it is, and the fun of the stories is never going to be about him fixing Gotham, it's always going to be about what is Batman fighting. and here's another truth.
But let me ask you this? Can you make a compelling story out of Bruce Wayne just using his money to fix everything? This is why it's only ever a line about it. Your reading a superhero comic and people are HERE FOR THE FUCKING SUPERHERO SHIT!
When CREATOR OF Batman Bill Finger was coming up with villains he wanted to make them fun first. He focused on making them all have unique gimmicks that stood out from each other and make them last. Some were bad yeah but he created most of the A-list.
He wanted to make fun stories that people LOVE. and here's the truth about your argument, this argument is one of the oldest in comics. It's not clever and guess what? Let's talk about ONE OF THE MOST OVERDONE GENRE'S AT THIS POINT, Superhero deconstruction.
Spider-man was one of the first characters who did use his powers for money and we had variations on superhero deconstruction since then.
Oh look it's Ozymandis who is going to kill half of New York to prevent nuclear annihilation by using his money and influence. Man it's like having a lot of money doesn't just fix things. Who knew right. Man imagine if Batman didn't have morals or something.
Look Batman has been deconstructed but he's never going to go away or really maybe even change in the way you want. Batman is about interesting scenarios and having fun, drama, and I have to always ask this? Is Batman fighting Joker more fun then Bruce Wayne using his money?
