azula deserved a redemption arc because the only difference between her and zuko’s abuse is that you can see his scar
YES azula was manipulative with her friends and did a lot of bad stuff BUT she was also 14 years old and a victim of abuse, there is plenty of room and time for her to grow and become a better person with the right guidance
also, it was very very unfair of iroh to uphold and idolize zuko as being the perfect child and save him from ozai’s abuse while completely turning a blind eye to azula and painting her as the monster. i think iroh’s a great character but this is definitely one of his flaws
to those of you saying she was a sociopath who was born evil.. do you really think a 14 year old girl whose only source of ideation was her evil father would REALLY be able to create a moral compass comparable to that of her brother who got 1) tangible affection from his mother-
- 2) a second father figure through his uncle??
i would also like to point out that a lot of people misunderstand the concept of her “redemption”. azula’s redemption arc wouldn’t follow the same path as zuko because SHE ISNT ZUKO. her fallibility with empathy and sensitivity will continue to be a weak point while her ability-
- to be a good leader with the right set of ideals would actually take her a long way! she could even become a strategist for zuko considering if they’re bond was mended she could give him unparalleled advice due to how capable she is as we already saw during the Ba Sing Se siege
