I don't normally talk about this but I'm in a reflective mood. I got fully off ODSP around 4 years ago after getting 2 part time jobs: at HCCI & Matthew Green's office. For me, @fordnation's win & the horror that followed really solidified the importance of electoral engagement.
I'm not special/particularly intellegent. I struggled academically. If it wasn't for a series of random luck I could still be on ODSP. I know some people on this app look up to me, so I'm saying this to make you understand that it could be *any* of us on social assistance.
Anything in the last 5 years could've worked out differently for me, and I'd be screwed under @fordnation. We need to make sure he's not reelected in 2022, so that the livelihood of disabled people is no longer based on luck. No one should live below the poverty line. #ODSPoverty
Honestly everything I've been involved in for the most part has always felt urgent, because *it is*. Elections, tackling anti black racism, policing, ableism, building up younger organizers. There are no other options. We will make these systems crumble beneath us, or die trying.
