Poverty-crime link is widely believed but it just isn't true. Costa Rica for instance is way poorer than any major US city but has very little crime, but most places with high gini coefficient have lots of crime.

I'm trying to make a serious point here but in Batman were any of the villains even poor? I think mostly they were social outcasts or wronged by something not economic.
