The DEFINITIVE Fate Series Watch Order
[Thread]
[Thread]
So since I'm tired of seeing this same argument repeated over and over for hours on end, I'm going to take time out my day and just gonna make a thread on it since anime onlys/casuals/people who haven't seen it believe it to be confusing and don't know the actual order.
Starting Option 1. The Fate/Stay Night VN
If you have the time/don't mind reading and actually want to grase the full story of F/SN Narrative while understanding the characters more on a deeper level, start here. Play in short bursts if you please.
Around 50 - 80 Hours

Starting Option 2. Fate/Stay Night (DEEN) | Fate Route
Now this more so has it's problems due to filler/pacing issues/rushed content, but overall isn't THAT terrible. Fans wouldn't recommend starting here due to those MASSIVE problems, but it's better then not having it at all.

You should ask someone who's knowledgeable on the Fate Route to explain some things that might not be explained or rushed in regards towards DEEN's adaptation.
If ufotable someday comes out with a Fate Route Remake, watch that instead.

Continuation - Fate/Stay Night UBW (Ufotable)
This is a new route that F/SN's story can go into that requires the Fate Route's build up of existing narratives to further continue plot points throughout the rest of Fate/Stay Night.

Continuation - Fate/Stay Night Heavens Feel (ufotable) | 3 part movie
The final route of Fate/Stay Night's 3 part story. This route can't be experienced without haven't seen the Fate and UBW route. Upon finishing this, you have now ended the Main Storyline of F/SN.

Sequel 1. Fate/Zero
F/0 is set as a story that existing before the events of F/SN, so it's labeled as the "prequel" of it. This is not the case, F/0 was designed in the way to be experienced after F/SN to understand the events before it began.

Sequel 2. Fate/Hollow Ataraxia VN
Like any given sequel, play this after experiencing F/SN story. Think of it as another route towards Fate/Stay Night that explains even more events that were unresolved in F/SN. Play in short bursts if you please.
Around 30 - 58 hours

This pretty much ends the Storyline of Fate/Stay Night and the rest of the Thread will be One offs Series with the "Fate" logo or Spin offs of Fate/Stay Night.
These can be experienced in ANY order you please because they don't connect towards each other, but rather F/SN.

One Offs 1. Fate/Apocrypha
This is a parallel world to F/SN, but with 14 servants instead of the usual 7 servants fighting. This however is rushed in some areas, but can be enjoyable in some aspects.

One Offs 2. Fate/Strange Fake
This is a more well written orginal story using Fate's HGW plot line. The creator(Ryohgo Narita) is most well known for his series Durarara and Baccano which presents great character writing with their own unique twists.
Ongoing LN & Manga

One Offs 3. Fate/Type Redline
This is not connected towards F/SN and is more so original due to it's origin of what it was before. It recently started ongoing so a short summary would be rather hard to write, but this story is something I'd recommend reading.

One Offs 4. Carnival Phantom
Now this isn't really a "Fate" work more so Tsukihime(another Type Moon Franchise), but it does contain characters from Fate within it as a Parody anime to both series so it counts technically speaking.

Spin offs 1. Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan
This is a lightheart ONA series about Shokugeki no Emiya cooking meals for the cast of F/SN. Watch if you want to see the chars from F/SN(Kiritsugu included) in warm environment having fun, it's pretty good.

Spin offs 2. Fate/Kaleid liner Prisma Illya
This is alt universe towards F/SN with Illya as the protagonist rather than Shirou with a new concept on how servants and the HGW works. The start is pretty decent, but as you continue it turns into an fantastic story.

This is just me, but I'd recommend the manga over the anime for this one. The anime imo is subpar and doesn't adapt the story as well from the manga and does it WAY longer than you could reading it while enjoying/getting more content.
Ongoing Manga(3 Seasons)

Spin offs 3. Lord El-Melloi II Case Files
This story without spoiling revolves around a member from F/Z's cast towards their journey into becoming Lord El-Melloi II. You would need to have experienced F/SN and F/Z to watch this.

That is about all I could recommend, the rest aren't translated enough for me to give the ok to read. Next I'll be going into the most important part of the Watch Order as an Anime/Manga Only.
DO NOT WATCH 1. Fate/Extra Last Encore
It's bad, don't watch, a waste of 10 times and your time. Terrible/Rushed adaptation of the original source material and the worse Fate related work in Anime.
The OP, ED, and OSTs are worth hearing.
Eps. NO, go watch something else

DO NOT WATCH 2. The Whole FGO series
FGO wasn't adapted for Anime Onlys to watch, it was for the community of people who played the mobile game and wanted to see the BEST parts adapted. FGO players could watch, it's great.

That brings me into my next section, did you know Fate has games other than Visual Novels? Crazy Ik, I won't go super into detail and just List some that I'd like to recommend.
Fate/Unlimited Codes - 2/3D Fighting Game
Fate Extra + Extra CCC - Turn Based JRPG w/ RPS combat
Fate/Extra Record - Fate/Extra Remake
Fate/Extella + Extella Link - Dynasty Warriors
Fate/Grand Order - Hell (Turn Based RPG VN)
Emiya Gohan - Shokugeki no Emiya (You make Food)

Emiya Gohan - Shokugeki no Emiya (You make Food)
That about does it for "Fate" related content. Did I cover everything? No not really, there's more I could go into but this is already long as it is. Going into more would be counterproductive as I'm trying to not make the Franchinse look confusing.
Last Note - PLEASE experience more Type/Moon related works if you like Fate, there's more than Fate
. I'll list some you could take a look at
Kara No Kyoukai - LN/ 9 Part Movie
Canaan - TV Series
Melty Blood - Fighting Game
VNs:
Tsukihime, Mahoutsukai no Yoru, Kagetsu Tohya
