TikTok is primarily a content platform, like YouTube. WeChat is social media, messaging, payments, and more.

TikTok has a primarily international market (not China market). WeChat has a primarily Chinese market, with mostly diaspora users abroad.
As many have noted, TikTok and WeChat collect a lot of data—but not significantly more or different data than American tech companies. The key difference for privacy lies in government access to data. The question isn’t so much which company you trust, but which government.
