Wechat is much more than a short video app. Describing it as the most popular chat messenger in #China doesn't do it justice. It's the one app that most China might say they cannot do without. Its a Google, Facebook, Whatsapp, and an info service, rolled into one.
Here's a picture of what Wechat's social media feed looks like. Not too different from a Facebook/Instagram where you post photos of what you ate that day or the exotic place you travelled. Some Chinese post interesting news pieces too. Its a great distraction for subway travel.
From Tencent's latest 1Q 2020 financial report: #Wechat has 1.2 bln monthly active users as of March 31,2020. Most are in China, but a sizable number are also Chinese staying, studying or diaspora in North America.
