No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.

— 2 Timothy 2:4

On October 3, 1993 two men by the name of Master Sergeant Gary Gordon and and Sergeant First Class Randall Shughart...
...were two snipers providing cover fire from the air for the second crash site of Super Six Four Blackhawk Helicopter as Rangers could not get there as they were providing cover for Super Six One crash.
Both Randy Shughart and Master Sergeant Gordy requested to land and protect the critically wounded crew. Missions commanders denied their request as the situation was too hot because they were outnumbered.
Gordy continued and requested twice to go down to the site. They were granted permission. Both Gordy and Randy fought their way to the downed Blackhawk. They made to the crash site where they extracted Chief Warrent Officer Mike Durant and other crew members.
They then established a defense perimeter around the crash site. Despite having inflicted heavy casualties, they were outnumbered. Randy and Gordy were killed by enemy gunfire. Durant was taken captive but later recovered alive.
Both Randy and Gordy recieved the highest military honors, and the first Medal of Honor recipients since the Vietnam War.

These men knew their duty as soldiers. Myself and others soldiers looked up to these men as legends.
They gave their lives to protect and they did. That’s what we’re taught in basic training and in our specialized fields. We would give our lives for each other. We were brothers and we knew our duty.
The world doesn’t understand and never will why we do it.

The Apostle Paul says to a young Timothy that his calling is as a soldier and that he must put away the world and serve the One who enlisted him, The Lord Jesus Christ.
Dear Pastors, teachers, elders, and congregations; if you are regenerated, you have been enlisted. You no longer are to follow the path of the world. You now serve the Lord and your alliegence is to Him alone.
We are engaged in a battle even now. Do we compromise and settle with the culture, the world? No, we do not. This battle may claim your life. Our Lord made mention that it would. Dear Pastors, are you prepared to lay down your life for your people. ?
Are you willing to protect them? Compromise sounds a lot easier doesn’t it? It is easy to do and we are seeing it daily are we not?
The reformer Martin Luther once said, “Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved.”

Where doth your loyalty lay?
