you need to be coming from a place of immense privilege to not understand the reaction of Lebanese people to Macron. yes, Macron’s visit is inherently political and narcissistic - but not everyone enjoys the privilege of deconstructing the colonial histories atm
lebanon lacks leadership. no one has taken responsibility. there has been deafening silence from the ruling elite. people are desperate for a semblance of guidance and leadership - Macron has provided that with his visit.
some days take a step back and put yourself in shoes of others. decoloniality is great but not in desperate times like this. pontificating colonial histories is imp in right time/place. condescendingly reprimanding ppl for ‘sheep mentality’ speaks of your lack of understanding
people have lost everything. their priorities are not the same as yours. they’re desperately seeking means to survive. so chill a little with your hottakes
