1/ I had a chat this morning with someone asking for advice on how they could get their leadership to invest in D&I.
Here is a thread (rant) on my thoughts

2/ If you are an independent contributor and your leadership is still asking for the financial ROI of investing in building a more diverse and inclusive company, my recommendation is...
Look for a new job.
Look for a new job.
3/ The amount of emotional labour & extra work it would take you as an IC to convince this leadership team is going to be overwhelming and could potentially have a negative impact on your career.
Without formal power it’s extremely challenging to create this change on your own.

4/ You’ll be stuck either:
A) Doing a lot of work not related to your performance evaluation (likely leading to lower performance + burnout)
B) Trying to organize a group of employees to demand action from leadership (very time consuming and draining).

5/ So instead - allocate that time and energy to finding something new. This will be wayyyyy better for your mental health and career progression.

P.S. I want to acknowledge that not everyone can just find another job at will (so I don’t advise quitting immediately). If you’re stuck somewhere that doesn’t care, try to build a more inclusive workplace for just the people on your direct team, rather than the entire company.
