#NormalizeFailure Day 4
When you look at a CV you see all the fellowships/scholarships and other honors awarded. You never see the ones they applied to but got a letter that said “we regret to inform you...”
Here’s some of mine.
Denied GEM Fellowship
Denied DoD NDSEG Fellowship
Denied a PEO International Scholarship (women’s org)
Denied an Intel scholarship
Ford Honorable Mention X2 (not a complete fail; it’s like being nominated for an Oscar and not winning “It’s an honor just to be nominated”)
Didn’t get NSF the first time I applied (got honorable mention). It made receiving it the following year even better- I can still hear @DrPlattLab screaming in the phone. I learned from being “good enough but not great enough”. It makes you want to work harder and do better.
Grit and resilience leads to a GROWTH MINDSET (vs fixed mindset). Having this is important as you deal with failure. It helps you get past challenges, seeing failure as part of the pathway to success. Embrace challenges and be persistent during times of set backs!
