Science (the field, not the journal) needs to redefine its integrity and quality.
Using a sports analogy, do we accept that doping (science misconduct) is fine, or do we take strong measures against it?
If the winner of the race (authors of published journal) are caught using doping, do we allow them to hand in a clean urine test 2 weeks after winning the race (sending in a new set of figures that look fine)?
Even worse, should we only take away the medals of non-European/non-US sportsmen and women, and let the European/US guys and gals keep their medals?
Because that is what I am seeing by editors. The minority papers are retracted, while US/European papers have special protection.
