There's upset in #ADHD #NeurodiverseSquad about "deficit of object permanence." Ppl want to express how we forget about things until externally reminded. Part of the complaint is there isn't a term for this & Obj Perm is close.

So why don't we push for there to be a term?
This is an experience that is not like just forgetting & the science is failing to give us words for it. So lets use a more specific term & make it a thing as a community. That can have the power to focus research into it too.

So what can we more precisely name it?
(like a typical ADHDer I have absolutely thought about how this is a problem that can have different solutions & am excited to maybe achieve a solution; so here's that part of the post)
I've seen Object Blindness mentioned as describing when things are blurred into the background, ex: when the cup you set on the table is not longer able to be noticed when you look over the table. It's a 'novel object' related thing.
Object Continuity or Object Tracking or Object Attention could describe when things are forgotten about in that 'out of sight out of mind' way. There is nuance to this experience & we could try to distinguish that with terms for each
So this is an open call for a creative outpour/inpour(?). What would be better terms for the different aspects of this forgetting? And how can we get the community to adopt it quickly & uniformly (maybe thru some of our big communicators & advocates?)
