I used to think that only kind of counter-culture that could resist being incorporated is one that has an opposition to absorption in its foundational principles- establishing that you CAN'T sell out, you CAN'T merchandise it, if you do you aren't part of our culture anymore. https://twitter.com/Logo_Daedalus/status/1291423860932452353
Then I noticed woke transformation of groups like adbusters- "alternative" spaces being commodified and controlled. Like logo describes. Irony can be part of this process- people buying t-shirts that say "don't buy t-shirts".

My answer is the establishment of a transcendental reference point. To transcend the limits of modernity, you must transcend the limits of the material world itself.
