I finished reading the Ellis entry in the TCJ series, in it Abhay goes really hard after what he calls "enablers" at one point pulling back from saying they should be attacked too, but I think for the most part this is flawed for two reasons
1. It speaks to a lack of understanding of how compartmentalized true predators actually are. A predator doesn't use enablers, they use people as shields as part of their surface legitimate life.
This works because the people they choose for that tend to be empathetic see the best in people kind of people. I don't even know how conscious that process is for a predator so much as it is this kind of necessary surface legitimate life that they are compelled to have
2. The tirade against these kind of people is drenched in the arrogance that "oh no, I could never be that person and I would always know what people I only talk to online most of the year, are really like" which, unless you just have no friends or associates is impossible
The truth is, your best friend who you see everyday, could be a serial killer, and because of how that kind of brain works, you would never know it. We see this all of the time!
And with Ellis's behavior we are talking about behaviour that is unfortunately very common. So odds are very high that right now someone you think is super great is engaging in similar behavior.
So I dunno. Seems dumb.
