I'm getting really fed up with the idea that keeping pubs closed will prevent the spread of a virus that is mutating. What if you have 5 supermarkets in a two-mile radius and you close 4? Everyone heads for the one that stays open! All five should be open. Makes sense surely (1)
People have been stating here that pub drinkers drop inhibitions when drunk. So what? Make it the responsibility of the owner to kick them out if that happens. A pizza or a bowl of chips for €9 is an insult. Get a grip. Stay away from the pub if you don't want to go. But (2)
thinking that keeping all the pubs closed is going to keep an airborne virus at a distance is just nonsense. Chippers, cinemas, buses, beaches, etc., it makes little difference. There will be no second wave. It's here. We need to learn how to live with it (3)
If we don't then life continues to be an uncertain threat for every single person of this generation. There's nothing guaranteed. That's the only certainty. Open the pubs. Stop the inevitable. There's no alternative. If you don't like pubs, then the advice should be stay away (4)
