this is absolutely dangerous on so many levels. diné people should not cosign or give space to folks who are anti-black. why do y'all still follow people who spew absolutely disgusting and untrue nonsense? who gatekeep? who literally use their own culture to harm others? jfc https://twitter.com/amsoufi_/status/1291384102441156611
i grew up with practicing traditional diné ways of life. i continue to practice them. speaking as a diné person, jfk is wrong. she is not advocating for the protection of our culture, she's using + twisting it to bring harm onto another. that's what diné call “witching someone”.
she is using negativity (words, actions, + intent) to harm others. even the thought of doing that to someone else is considered going against our diné way of life. speaking it? shádáahjigo kojigo yigááł. doo yá’ádaat’ééhígíí kojigo nidaalnish.
when criticism first arose from diné people about roanhorse's book i was open to listening because i always want to make sure that we are indeed protecting our language, culture, and teachings. ultimately, since that's what the argument was, i tried to understand and listen.
but after months of listening, reading, talking with others, and trying to understand the argument, it dawned on me that a huge part of the argument wasn't about protecting culture or community. it was about weaponizing BQ, gatekeeping, and elite natives misusing their power.
that was months ago. today, folks are still tugging at those same strings but now they're not just going after roanhorse herself, they're also going after her husband and family and using diné culture to do it. that's how you know the whole entire other argument was a ruse.
people who claim to be interested in protecting diné culture, practices, + teachings need to redirect that energy to jfk.

focus on how they negatively use diné culture for their own benefit, spread anti-black COVID-19 conspiracy theories, + spread lies to their +22k followers.
not an expert. just a diné woman watching another diné woman saying the wildest bs i've ever read to harm someone else as part of their anti-black hate campaign. ??? which is all somehow backed by the holy people, diné medicine people, + diné cultural gatekeepers ??? BYE.
