Like in theory setting up a system that lets everyone work in local currency is probably a good thing but holy shit there's so many issues with this... the biggest one being Patreon themselves setting the conversion rate that they use between different currencies

If you're gonna let me show people from the UK a price in £ and people from the US a price in $, cool! But I only trust myself to set those prices fairly, I do not trust Patreon to do that. Especically since conversion rates are only going to be updated every "6-12 months"

So depending on which way you're converting, £1 is either $1, or $1.50

Oh my god when they update their 'price book' it only updates pledges for new patrons not old patrons....

This is explicitly saying that depending on what time someone started pledging to a creator, their $5 (to the creator) pledge could cost them either £3, £4 or £6

Forgive me for stating the obvious but £6 is twice as much as £3...

Gonna be putting out regular PSAs to my patrons like 'hey, sorry, they fucked it again, if you cancel your pledge and repledge, I'll get the same amount but it'll be 50% cheaper for you' dfgdghfgh

Or maybe creators won't get the same amount, I can't even tell because this is so absurd. Maybe you just get whatever people pay? But in that case it's the creator who is exposed to massve income loss based on Patreon changing their rates

I mean bottom line is, clearly you're gonna get people paying different amounts for the same thing. I won't be able to say 'I have X number of $5 patrons' anymore. I'll have X number patrons of a certain tier; some of them are paying £3, some £4, some $4, some $6 etc.

To be clear I'm kind of laughing at this because it's absurd but I'm also kind of extremely distressed because this is my income and I don't see any way this doesn't totally fuck over creators, non-US creators

the more I stare at these three charts the more I become convinced that Patreon is now just doing outright money laundering

You can opt in to this right now and it's tempting to do that just to see my income in freefall, much as how it's tempting to jump off the edge of tall buildings sometime

I'm gonna wait and hope they fix at least some of this and address some of the many, MANY concerns that people are going to have. But they probably won't
