THREAD: Mikel Artekkers is doing wonders with Dani!! He's been absolutely vital and a player Arteta has full faith in. In this thread, I provide my in depth thoughts on his rapid development under our young coach. RT's so more Gooners can see the thread would mean a lot šŸ˜€šŸ”“šŸ”“
I was at his first game at the Emirates against Burnley. He was outstanding. Energetic, dictating play, quality in possession are a few of my descriptions of his man of the match display. I thought to myself after the game that maybe ā€˜he could be our next Santi’. Unfortunately...
his inability to maintain this level of performance, under Emery, left many of us frustrated. But under MA, he has been a different kettle of fish. His consistent performances of late has provided me with belief that he can be a player of significant value to us next season. The.
key to his improvement has been down to MA's ability to utilise him correctly. He was badly mismanaged under Emery, playing a number of different roles. At times, he was played as the deepest midfielder and occasionally played out wide. MA realised that his best position is..
next to a holding midfielder, in a pivot as an 8. Line breaker and ball progression are key attributes to play this role, which Dani possesses. Technically he’s a fabulous player. The criticism I had of him under Emery was the fact that he wasn’t utilising this aspect of his...
game to full affect. ā€˜Fidget spinner’ was a reference some had of him. Too many turns and shoulder drops were frequent in his play as well as not releasing the ball quick enough, which slowed down our overall tempo.
The simple difference now under MA is the simplicity
implemented back into his game. Simple but extremely effective is what I describe it as! Less frequent turns makes him a lot more unpredictable. His shoulder drops have been utilised in a way that allows him to take players out of the game. Big aspect of his game he’s improved
substantially on is his performances defensively. Both his positional awareness and defensive work rate has gone up a level, winning tackles and providing tenacity. His high energy pressing style and intent to win the ball back quickly further.
forward has fitted perfectly into MA's system. What I like about him is that he’s able to quickly restore back into his position when pressing high up, and not leaving Xhaka isolated. Statistically, he’s been a standout both in and out of possession when compared to his teammates
Torreira-Xhaka was our best midfield pivot initially. Xhaka provides progression from deep, with Torreira providing the bite and tenacity. Ceballos, however, has shown to be a significant upgrade to the Uruguayan. His inclusion provides us with a lot more control and...
progression. In possession, Ceballos is a far more influential player to Torreira, possessing better attributes. The question was whether he could maintain tight distances and positional discipline with Granit, and provide the bite Lucas provides. And he has shown to do just that
What I like about Dani is his ability to maintain consistent performance levels against the top sides. He stood out in all the games against Wolves, City, Chelsea and even Spurs, despite losing that match. Complete midfield performances from him, always showing for the ball and
trying to maintain fluidity and tempo in our play. Whether its a loan, or signing him on for 22M, we have to do it. Even if it doesn't work out, continuous market inflation will mean that we should still profit from him.
Statistically, in terms of G/A ,his numbers aren't great. But we must remember that, currently he is playing in a midfield pivot where you have to remain in close proximity with his midfield partner. This means that Dani hasn't had the freedom to provide a consistent influence in
the final third. Eventually, MA will transition to a 4-3-3 with two attacking midfielders drifting in between the lines. I'm confident that Dani, integrated into this system, will improve on his productivity. Potentially, with Partey and Coutinho coming in, we suddenly look a lot
stronger within central midfield. Against teams who deploy a low block system, trio of Partey-Coutinho-Ceballos is exciting, with PC and DC drifting in between the lines and providing creativity. If Coutinho plays on the wing, a midfield of Xhaka-Partey-Ceballos also works
well. But what is clear is that Dani can be an integral member to the side. Still only 23 and his traits can be further refined under MA. The rise in his performances under our Spanish coach is really encouraging and I can see him transitioning these performances into next season
