So y'all may recall @0x49fa98's quote "humans build markets like honeybees build hives."
It's true.
So what happens if you follow the emotional appeals of people who are all "abolish capitalism, abolish money, to each according to their need..."?

Money doesn't magically go away. Even if a Socialist managed to rid the system of fiat currency, gold, silver, and other such things...
...political favors would be the new currency. The niceness of your apartment would be based on how much the political class favors you.

In a Socialist system, political connections become the new money. Political favors the new marketplace (and this is ignoring the inevitable black markets that form).
You can't escape the marketplace. It will always exist, so long as humans exist.

When they talk about abolishing rent, what does this really mean? Who gets the nice apartment, who gets the ghetto-ass building? Who gets the mansion, and who gets the trailer?
You still have to pay for that. Only now we've created an extra abstraction layer.

At least money as we know it now can be counted rather directly. Even a simpleton can understand roughly how much his paycheck and assets are worth.
But in the system of political currency, it's rather opaque and difficult to quantify.
