Personal ones. If we do not have classrooms where students can develop critical thinking skills, where to do they create those fundamentally key aspects to being a high functioning community member? Truly this government does not want citizens to develop the capacity to question
Them. Heck I wanted my students to question me in class—how do we really know if a student understands a complex idea or has just memorized a fact. I don’t care if my students know the exact date of the start of WWII I want them to understand the conditions that lead to that
Conflict. Who are we as a society if we are willing to dumb down education? Who are we as educators if we do not advocate for higher level understandings for all of our students? I deeply saddened yet not surprised by this morning’s announcement. I guess the next
