Today marks 55 years since President LBJ signed the Voting Rights Act into law. This historic achievement was the result of decades long battles to form a more perfect union — where all Americans have equal opportunity and where justice for all is endowed.
The journey towards that more perfect union hasn’t been easy. In 2013, the Supreme Court ruled to weaken the Voting Rights Act of 1965. This set us two steps back on our path to racial and economic equality.
Rep. John Lewis fought his entire life to protect the right to vote. In December of 2019, he introduced the the Voting Rights Advancment Act, which would restore certain key protections of the 1965 Act that were struck down by SCOTUS.

We must do everything we can to protect our right to vote. The ballot box is under attack by republicans, including our own Congressman.
The hallmark of our democracy is our Constitutional right to vote, and in Congress I will fight tirelessly to protect it.
