THREAD: What would @FCBarcelona 2010/11 look like today?
Following on from my Everton '84/85 tread, I will be using our comparison tool to find the most similar current players to those that played in Pep's legendary side at the turn of last decade.
GK: Victor Valdes

IS: 142.885
Comparison: Gianluigi Buffon ( @juventusfcen)
Difference: 1.08%

Two legendary modern keepers here. Valdes perhaps went under the radar in such a star studded team, but his buildup play was key, and a good shot stopper
RB: Dani Alves

IS: 146.802
Comparison: Marcelo ( @realmadriden)
Difference: 0.02%

Here we see how close these compatriots are as the best 2 attacking fullbacks over the last decade. Although they play on different flanks, their quality and output is neck and neck
CB: Gerard Pique

IS: 152.860
Comparison: Marquinhos ( @PSG_English)
Difference: 0.06%

Another similar score here between Pique and the Brazilian. Both are classy and composed on the ball, and I believe Marquinhos is another who perhaps slides under the radar.
CB: Javier Mascherano

IS: 138.886
Comparison: Daley Blind ( @AFCAjax)
Difference: 0.06%

Two players equally comfortable operating in defence or the base of midfield. Blind's resurgence since his return to Ajax has been a joy to watch. Javi was so good in his prime.
LB: Eric Abidal

IS: 130.233
Comparison: Lucas Hernandez ( @FCBayernEN)
Difference: 0.02%

Two more countrymen who can play full back or in the middle. Abidal suffered personal problems during the season but played so well throughout. Lucas is on course to become a world great.
DM: Sergio Busquets

IS: 155.830
Comparison: Marco Verratti ( @PSG_English)
Difference: 0.11%

Those who know me will know I wax lyrical about Busquets constantly and I regard him as one of the very best midfielders ever! Verratti too is unheralded but is at the very top for me.
CM: Andres Iniesta

IS: 147.467
Comparison: Thiago ( @FCBayernEN)
Difference: 0.07%

Funnily enough, Barca has a ready made replacement for Iniesta in their squad that season, but Thiago never really got his chances at Barcelona. Still, proof La Masia worked!
CM: Xavi

IS: 144.580
Comparison: Andres Iniesta! ( @visselkobe)
Difference: 0.05%

Showing how synonymous one has become with the other, Xavi's closest match was his midfield partner. These two were probably the greatest ever midfield duo.
LW: Pedro

IS: 143.093
Comparison: Paul Nebel ( @Mainz05en)
Difference: 0.04%

First real shock! Nebel is a 17 year old winger who has put up incredible attacking numbers for Mainz u19s, and looks like he could easily transition into the first team next year. Prospect here.
RW: Lionel Messi

IS: 155.417
Comparison: Luis Suarez ( @FCBarcelona)
Difference: 0.32%

So Barca had (still have) the world's best, and added his closest match 3 years later. Suarez' output remains incredible year on year.
CF: David Villa

IS: 122.212
Comparison: Jan Mlakar ( @OfficialBHAFC)
Difference: 0.03%

Another shock? Mlakar impressed many on loan at Maribor, and has been good for Wigan this season. He certainly seems to be on a sharp positive trajectory.
Subs:
Carles Puyol (140.643)
Comparison: Jerome Boateng (0.01%)

Maxwell (150.878)
Comparison: Sergi Roberto (0.20%)

Notes:
-How high the average IS was. This was an incredible, well-rounded side.
-Just how many of the comparisons are playing for the top 3/4 clubs in Europe, further highlighting quality.
-How unheralded some of the comparisons are despite their high standards.
