I am not sad in the least to see Premier McNeil step down today. (Full disclosure: I work for a union that has been under attack by his gov't for 8 years... /1 https://atlantic.ctvnews.ca/nova-scotia-premier-stephen-mcneil-to-step-down-leave-public-office-1.5053635

Over that time, his actions have led me to believe that he is a small-minded, thin-skinned man who tried to run this province like it was a small business. It is not.)

His schtick was to divide-and-conquer, to turn working-class Nova Scotians against one another and perpetuate a race-to-the-bottom mentality. A great leader is someone who brings people together, rather than driving them apart. /3
Even in his resignation speech today, he stood by his ass-backwards labour relations stance.
Listen, this man clearly sees himself as some deranged version of Robin Hood, stealing from the ârichâ to give to the âpoor.â Hereâs the problem. HE DIDNâT DO THAT. /4

1st, union members are not ârich.â They make good wages, have benefits & pensions. ALL CITIZENS SHOULD HAVE THAT. WE SHOULD NOT BEGRUDGE OUR FELLOW CITIZENS LIVING WAGES AND GOOD JOBS. /5
2nd, according to this 2019 report ( https://bit.ly/3gy6iTK ) currently, almost 1 in 4 children in this province live in poverty. It doesn't sound to me like those kids are better off today than they were before Premier McNeil was elected in 2012. /6
You, sir, have done VERY little for the poor in NS, so please kindly fuck off with that shit.
Setting aside the labour relations piece for just a moment, I also take exception to lies he told, like promising to be the most open & transparent gov't https://bit.ly/33zNmA3 /7

Yeah, I hear you: politicians lie. But here's the unforgivable part, for me: when this guy was caught in a lie, or messed up, he was almost pathologically incapable of owning it... And that's not leadership.
Listen, political office is not for the faint of heart. /8

I hope that whomever takes on the leadership role for the Liberal Party of NS does not follow in McNeilâs footsteps. And I hope that the next leader of our Province is actually interested in bringing ALL Nova Scotians together, so we can create a better future for EVERYONE. /FIN
(I lied, one last thing: wouldn't it be nice to have a leader who is has a collaborative style, rather than a paternalistic one?!)
Fuck. HAS, NOT IS HAS.
I give up.
I give up.
