Yes, everybody, I saw the news about Ruggs "staring in the slot" in Las Vegas.

And naturally my notifications are EXPLODING cause of my renowned love for Hunter Renfrow. đŸ˜‚đŸ€Ł

Here are my thoughts for all you thirsty haters:
It's definitely not great news for Renfrow. However, I have said that Ruggs is more than just a "deep threat," and I already expected him to play some snaps in the slot. He's a real all-around talent, so I think he'll see snaps all over the field.
And it's likely going to be Tyrell Williams and another rookie, Bryan Edwards, battling for work on the outside. So, even still, Ruggs is the only threat to Renfrow's slot work, and I still believe Ruggs'll get some work on the outside as well. In fact, Olson even confirmed that
I predicted that Renfrow would lead the team in targets this year, and that might be ambitious. But again, as a rookie - in only 13 games no less - he still finished 2nd on the team in targets last year. (Even over Tyrell Williams, who played in 14 games.)
Some may respond by saying Williams was playing a bit hurt last year. He got plantar fasciitis, and that's no joke. But he was still on the field for over 60% of the snaps and got some chances in most of the games he still played
I also think Edwards was brought in specifically to be Williams's ultimate replacement. I don't think the selection of Edwards was actually a commentary on Renfrow at all.
I also think Ruggs was brought in because he could end up being the next great offensive weapon. A true all-around talent who can change an offense. Again, this is not a commentary on Renfrow, who will still likely serve as the team's key target on 3rd downs and tough spots
Renfrow's 16.8% hog rate from last year (good for 8th overall in the league) shows just how much Carr loves going to him when he's out there. He also had the 13th most red-zone receptions in the league, typically while playing less than 50% of the team's offensive snaps each game
And even before his two-straight 100-yard performances to end the year, he was the WR25 in PPR from Weeks 8-12

Again, when he is out there, they go to him. They trust him so much. And I also think his TD upside is being very underplayed
In sum, I do believe the news isn't what you want to see as a Renfrow truther, and I'm going to knock him down slightly in my rankings.
However, I still think he is, at minimum, a WR3/4 with the upside for even more. Especially this season, I think Renfrow is still going to play a key role in this offense.
