People were ok with Corbyn reliably opposing and criticising the government. Sure they believed bullsht criticisms of him, but everyone just quietly accepted that part of the dynamic. Now it's gone I think they resent it's absence.
Which is weird, cause it's probably one of the things that annoyed the centrists ice-chewers the most, seeing as they identified with the figures he would criticise more than with him.
No normal person admires this demure fucking obsequience. They can't wrap their heads around it. It's an alien behaviour. Probably another reason Tories succeed, they don't operate under the pretence that they have to afford the opponents any dignity
if Keir had kept the corbyn pugilistic posture he may not have had Guardian travel writers gush so hard, and had more scoldings from the Sun or whatever, but he'd have a poll lead by now. Instead he went for the approval of people like Rachel Reeves who represent no popular base
which is what I mean when I say he's a vapid dork. He's just responding to the party culture, not pursuing any kind of considered political strategy. It's a path of least resistence approach, and it's clear he's the kind of guy that will walk that path without a second thought.
and the resistence he senses that shapes his behaviour comes from moronic right wingers who are even more irrelevent than us. If Starmer was still actually the quiet socialist sold in the leadership campaign he might have a shot. But he's just some suit nerd in the PLP clique.
