Thread on "cultural marxism"

To label Christians, especially BIPOC, engaged in justice work as “cultural marxists” in blanket statement is not only intellectually lazy, but also philosophically hubris drenched in white-washing of history. It presumes...
that minorities are trapped in their particularities, always dependent on the Enlightenment’s western universal philosophical values, who cannot come up with their own theological or philosophical formulations that is endemic to their own.
For instance, my conviction for justice primarily stems from my own traditional and exegetical readings of the promise to the patriarchs, the Exodus narrative, the prophetic call of the OT saints, the ministry and life of Jesus, the Pauline understanding of the church...
...and eschatological vision of John in tandem with the interpretations of the Fathers; moreover, these values were also cultivated by my immigrant parents that faithful civic engagement cannot be severed from care for neighbors and society large.
Thus, the inclination to yell “cultural marxism” in a pejorative sense is rooted in colonialist gaze that minority thinking and actions must always be viewed through the prism of western philosophical values.
Perhaps, this further proves the ubiquity of colonialism in both the intellectual and social imaginary, namely, the inability or even the refusal to see BIPOC thinking and actions as a unique endeavor.

Have a good afternoon. ✌️
