Douki thread ~
That's right my friends it's time we talk about the newest member of Suzuki Gun and everyone's favourite lucha gremlin Douki because I think he's neat and he deserves way more love
As I did with El desperado we won't be touching on any times he's wrestled under another name in this thread, there also won't be any unmasked photos. We respect our masked men around these parts and their commitment to a gimmick
We did speak very briefly about him in the despy thread ( https://twitter.com/eldespahippo/status/1281970541902082052 ) but I don't think we truly got to go into enough detail finding info on Douki is harder than it was with his brother so I suspect this might take a little while. Now let's start with the basics
Douki is a Japanese born Luchador, his birthdays february 24th and he's most known for his very stylish and unique half mask. He debuted around 2008 and he currently works for NJPW where he is a member of Suzuki Gun. He's El Desperados 'brother' and Taichis mentee
So we know Douki appears in New Japan in the BOSJ 2019 to replace Despy after Despy broke his jaw in a death match he took to avenge Douki but if thats when he debuted then exactly where was Sweet Douki before all that? The answer.....Mexico
The story goes that at ages 17/18 (a lot of info for Douki has conflicting reports so bare with me) Douki, who was in love with the Lucha Libre style moved himself across the world alone to Mexico so he could learn to be a Luchador
(His birthdays december 24th not february as listed above again...conflicting reports) He trained under Ultimo Dragon and Jorge Rivera in Toryumon Gym. It's also around this time he met Taichi (who says he taught Douki everything this is.....probably not true)
Now because this isn't about Taichi we're just going to pop him in a box for now. So Douki Trains and makes his debut in December of (08/09/10) under a different name and he wrestles for around a year or so before becoming Douki as we know him now.
If I were to take a guess he arrives in mexico in 08 at 17, debuts in Dec 09 at 18/19, wrestles for around a year (2010) and rebrands at Douki in 2011. It's noted in an interview he did with El Desperado for NJPW that Despy never saw him wrestle under his previous gimmick
El Desperado surfaces in Mexico early 2012. Now unlike my previous despy thread I haven't got clear cut feuds or rivalries to break things into what I do have however is every Douki clip I could dig up. So from earliest to latest we're going to go through them and discuss
We're going to start in 2012, first with a look at how Douki's first (or almost first) mask looked, you can see that it's a little bit more plain that the Douki masks of today. A simple black base with blue accents that ties in the back. Douki posted a photo of it recently
I found a match from 2012 (it breaks in the middle for interviews and I've marked the start point) it's from around April 2012 which means it's a pretty early example of douki it's a 6 man tag match and while his in ring time is short you get a feel for
the style in which he's trained and an idea of his general look. The match takes place for IWRG who had a relationship with Toryumon Mexico where Douki trained, he wrestled many times for them until around 2018
He're another one from 2012 this time from June where douki tags with what my be a familiar face to some a tiny baby Eita, Douki would commonly tag with any foreigners but especially with those also from japan. This is another 6 man tag match
so again you don't get a lot of Douki but you do get a good idea and glimpse into how he would shape up as a wrestler. You see how Douki fits into the Lucha Libre style and how he works with the pace of the match
