PRO TIP from an online instructor and course designer for the last 8 years: Have a CONSISTENT home page for all courses. I said it. ALL COURSES. Hear me out [thread/1] #distancelearning2020 #onlinelearning @VirtualScholars
In a B&M classroom, the elements are consistent. Desk. Whiteboard. Bookshelves. Teacher desk. There are different arrangements for sure, but the elements are CONSISTENT. [/2]
This makes it familiar for students and their families to know what's going on, or at least to have something recognizable from classroom to classroom to classroom. So let's think about the coming distance learning in our district. [/3]
I think about the student and family experience that is coming with DL - course home pages with different elements, different icons, different labels, different names. This is like walking into one classroom with desks, the next one with pineapple field. [4]
It makes no sense, that's correct. This is why we have desks in each classroom. Because consistency eliminates confusion. Same same online. Consistent home pages with consistent naming and consistent titles. Minimize the confusion for students and their families
