Somaliis were the first to domesticate camels in 2500BC , and currently has more camels than any country on earth.
Somalia has 52 millions heads of life stock, 27 million sheep and goats, 15 million camels, 5 million cows and one of the richest fishing grounds in the world. Also, Somalia’s dairy industry is worth a whopping $3.3bn
Fun fact that I doubt most of you didnt know is that ; Madagascar was named after Mogadishu.
Somalia is the only African country to have a sea named after them. (Somali sea)
The oldest surviving sailing ship is the Somali beden ship.
Somalia is considered a future energy superpower, with an estimated 110 billion barrels of oil, 1/3rd of the worlds uranium’s reserve, the strongest wind power potential in the world, and 3000 hours of sunlight annually.
Somalia is also a continental leader in mobile money with its market worth $32bn, which is larger than the whole economy of Jamaica and Albania.
The Somali empire of Adal was the first to introduce cannon warfare to the African continent.

The Somali ajuran empire alongside with the Ottoman Empire fought against the Portuguese to strip them from their Swahili colonies. The Portuguese were severely beaten and surrendered in the city of Mombasa (1660)
In the 13th century a well known somali explorer named Sa’id of Mogadishu travelled the world.

And In the 14th century, a Somali explorer named Abdul-Aziz of Mogadishu became ruler of the Maldives
In the 16th century a Somali saint founded a city across the Red Sea ( AL-luhayyah, Yemen)
The first Muslim settlement in Sri Lanka was a Somali saint( beruwala, Sri Lanka
Somaliis were one of the first to trade and export coffee to the world. (15th century)
The oldest African community in the United Kingdom are the Somaliis
The longest anti-colonial war in African history was indeed the dervish war in Somalia which overthrew the British colonisers
For those who say women are not valued in the Somali community or that they are just (stay at home wives) fun fact for you; it was a Somali lady called hasna doreh, who commanded and led one of the 7 divisions of the dervish army
Also one of Africa’s first female fighter pilots was Asli Hassan Abade, a Somali lady (1976).

Additionally, Women in Somalia were able to vote before women in Switzerland could.
In 1974 Somalia launched Africa’s largest literacy campaign and won a UNESCO medal after the countries literacy rate jumped from 5% to 75%.
The Somali pharmaceutical industry at one point mass produced 48 essential drugs, and was one of Africa’s largest hubs for pharmaceuticals
The airport of berbera which has one of the longest runways in Africa, was a designated emergency landing spot for nasa space shuttles.
The Ogaden war was the longest conventional war fought in Africa since the world war 2. It resulted in the largest Soviet Union intervention and airlift since “the March towards Berlin” in 1945, just to push back the Somali soliders who had overwhelmed the Ethiopian empire.
Somalia built Burundi’s airforce, protected The borders of Tanzania and Uganda, flew jets for Zambia, defended Mozambique from the Portuguese, trained South Africans fighting apartheid, supplied Eritrea’s war of independence, sent troops to Angola-
-sent medics to equatorial New Guinea, supports Egypt with naval logistics, supported Zimbabwe and Namibia war against apartheid forces
