Here's a thread about why I really, really wish PasC sheets contained the correct information... and how they often don't.
So, the Gregorian chanting coming out of the radio in The Young Ones, "Time". The PasC lists it as a Decca release, with the catalogue number LXT 2551.
So, we have to go by the title and artist instead. Now, annoyingly enough, the release "Vol III, No. 1" is proving quite annoying to track down. Here's "Vol III, No. 3": https://www.discogs.com/Choir-Of-The-Monks-Of-The-Abbey-Of-Saint-Pierre-De-Solesmes-Dom-J-Gajard-OSB-Gregorian-Chant-Vol-III/release/6215684
Now, I'm sure I can find "Vol III No. 1" by more searching. I bet the digits on the catalogue number are transposed or something. I'll get there.
But man, if the info on the PasC was right in the first place, this job would be a lot easier...

In short: this is why Dirty Feed isn't updated enough. Because I get lost in the bushes on this stuff, rather than writing opinion pieces.
Getting closer. LXT 5171 is "Vol III, No. 2". Just one album away - need to find "Vol III No. 1". (No, annoyingly, it looks like it isn't just LXT 5170 - that's a London Symphony Orchestra release.) https://www.discogs.com/Choir-Of-The-Monks-Of-The-Abbey-Of-Saint-Pierre-De-Solesmes-Conducted-By-Dom-J-Gajard-OSB-Gregorian-/release/14397105
For the record, "Vol III, No. 4" is Decca LXT 5226. Why the bloody hell does "Vol III, No. 1" remain so elusive?! https://www.discogs.com/Choir-Of-The-Monks-Of-The-Abbey-Of-Saint-Pierre-De-Solesmes-Dom-J-Gajard-OSB-Gregorian-Chant-Penteco/release/14406633
Well, I've come to the conclusion that - bizarrely - "Vol III No. 1" of this set isn't listed on Discogs. Not even under a different name. But I can't find it anywhere else, either.
We have visual evidence that "Vol III No. 2" *was* released, so surely No. 1 was?

So if somebody wants to be tremendously clever, see if you can find "Vol III No. 1" of this set. I'll love you forever if you can find it.
Yes, it is nearly 5am and I haven't gone to bed yet, what's your point?
An answer... https://twitter.com/bendroid2000/status/1290496301050687489?s=21 https://twitter.com/Bendroid2000/status/1290496301050687489
...and I think the catalogue number proves it. Just the first two digits transposed - LXT 5251, while the paperwork says LXT 2551.

In fact, this release was one of my candidates in last night’s research, but I couldn’t find a reference to it actually being called Vol III No. 1 before, just Christmas. But that site finally links the two.
The fact the catalogue number was *higher* for Christmas than No. 2 and No. 4 also gave me pause, but I guess there could be all kinds of internal reasons for that. Presumably commissioned earlier, and renumbered before release.
Two other things:
a) I think I’m right: this release *isn’t* listed on Discogs.
b) There’s no track listed on the PasC, and I suspect figuring out exactly which track this is will be tricky...

So, if my reckoning is correct, this CD is actually a re-release of this album (along with the Easter stuff):

I've just ordered it, so if I can detect which track is actually used in The Young Ones, I'll let you know.

I can’t think about Gregorian Chants without a little voice in my head going “Erm, Gregorio?”
“No WANK.”
I am getting very strong vibes of Son of Cliche's 'Twenty Golden Indian Restaurant Tracks' sketch.
God, I wish I was listening to Girls Aloud.
This is RUBBISH.
I have made some bad life choices.
I never want to celebrate Christmas again.
I take back everything I ever said about Amazulu.
If this is supposed to be uplifting, it isn't.
Maybe Richard Dawkins has a point after all.
I think, on balance, I prefer the Mr. Bean theme.
The subtitles say (RELIGIOUS CHORAL MUSIC PLAYING) instead of just giving me the Latin and making job easier, so whoever made those subtitles can fuck off as well.
TRACK 6 IS NINE AND A HALF SODDING MINUTES LONG
OH MY GOD I'VE FOUND THE FIRST INSTANCE AS RICK TURNS ON THE RADIO
Track 7. "Introit, Puer natus est".
Track 7. "Introit, Puer natus est".
Right, time to find the other two instances - I think they're different tracks...
Second instance when Rick turns the radio back on I think is *also* Track 7, just slightly later...
The next bit will be the killer: during the actual Captain Blood sketch. But Robbie Coltrane fucking TALKS all over it.
This is the most exciting thread in the world.
Right. The last use, during the main Captain Blood sketch is VERY difficult to figure out. But I've listened over and over, and I believe it's *also* Track 7 - the same section as used when the radio is turned on for the second time.
Which makes sense. Why have three different tracks from the album cued up, when you just need generic religious chanting? Far easier to just use the same track.
Well, thank fuck that's over.
Now I just have to, erm, do the rest of the Series 2 music guide. Oh good.
