INFLUENTIAL GYARU FROM PAST+PRESENT
(slow thread but i just wanna get this started!)

With a fashion that dates back to ~1991, the 'It Girls' are bound to change, reflecting which substyle was the most popular, and which were chosen to be shown in top magazines due to that.
Buriteri is considered the queen of Ganguro, a lot of images of her come up by simply googling the word. With a tan so heavy, it wouldn't fly now, she stood out as a blueprint for 90s ganguro. She has since retired due to public pressure.
Following up, Ka-tan/Kanae Watanabe is the next most iconic Ganguro. Similar Another EGG model, and "most ganguro pics are her." She's now a mother of three, and became a truck driver like her father!
Sifow/Fujita Shiho

At age 19, she realized being a gyaru was affecting her image; This lead to her starting a blog to fight prejudice in 2005, later starting her own business at 19, "G-Revo." She fights heavily against judgement. She was later discovered by record label-
Avex Trex, a bit after starting her modeling career and indie music, creating her first mini album "& YOU REVOLUTION." After a pretty long music career, she has taken a hiatus to work on opening a school for gyaru, and Nogal, a farm project to work on a rice farm for Japan.
NAMIE AMURO

Amuro is well known as the 'queen of J-pop' as she changed the genre to her own, breaking free from the clean, youthful idol image. She popularized long boots, tan skin, and a general sexy aesthetic! After personal struggles, she changed to doing R&B music, however -
She retired from doing music in 2018.
Some funfacts about her include that MGM allowed her to put the Pink Panther for her song WOWA, and made a new character for it as well. She also appeared in a remix of TLC's Waterfalls, replacing Left Eye (without her knowing..)
AYUMI HAMASAKI (Here's a long one.)

Following Amuro, she's titled "The Empress of J-pop"! Starting out modeling since age 7 to help her family after her father left, though didn't last long as she was deemed too short. She then tried rapping, failed as well, and went on to begin
Acting in B-movies, which ended up failing also. She quit acting, and moved back in with her mother, becoming a delinquent as she continued failing in school. She eventually dropped out, and spent most of her time shopping, and clubbing. There, she met Max Matsuura, a producer-
owned the club she loved. He gave deal, but she suspected ulterior motives and turned him down; He continued asking, until she said yes. She took vocal lessons, but skipped due to boredom. She impressed Matsuura with her style of writing, and he suggested she write her lyrics.
Giving her confidence, she was given new life. She decided to go all in. Her grandmother fell ill, and Ayumi told her that she would come back after recording of her single Poker Face. Her grandmother did not make it, and d*ed while she was in the studio.
She insisted on finishing it. It begun her success, and she started dyeing her hair blonde (a trademark.) She got several contacts with companies like HONDA. She then begin winning fashion awards, and became the spokeswoman for Kose (popular cosmetic brand)
Despite her success, she suffered from depression, this reflected onto her music, as she came out with the album Duty, with songs dealing with those topics, coming across much darker than people expected from her music.
However, she was happy to know her music inspired so many teenaged girls. The year also gave Ayupan, a figurine designed by herself. To this day, they're very popular. Her popularity only kept rising, earning her the "Ultimate Diva of Japan,"
She kept control over her own image, even ditching a photoshoot for an album to do a different one, reflecting more on her thoughts at the time. She then gained "Most influential Japanese artist." Wanting to get her message across not just in Japanese, she made her first English
album "Rainbow," projecting herself as sexy&stylish. This was her happiest year, singing about love, happiness, and confidence. Ayupan then got a show, and she continued to sell top-selling albums, keeping herself at the top of the charts consistently.
She announced she would not participate in major awards, as she thought she was given the same awards, and wanted to give other artists a chance. Still, her popularity never wavered for years. A novel was written about her, titled M Aisubeki Hito ga Ite, that became a TV series.
To this day, she is still incredibly popular. She's now a mother, and was going to go on a national tour, but it has been cancelled due to COVID. She's almost completely deaf, but refuses to let that hinder her love for performing.
TSUBASA MASUWAKA

A mega popular model in the magazine Popteen, she's been nicknamed "10 billion Yen Gal"! If not from that, you may recognize her makeup brand Candy Doll, and Dolly Wink lashes! She also has a line of circle lenses called Bambi Princess Mimi!
She debuted her singing career in 2011, going by the name Milky Bunny! However, she hasn't released music since 2013. As far as I know, she hasn't made any mention of starting it back up again. Her style has since evolved to a more 'natural' type makeup.
KUMIKO FUNAYAMA

Also known as Kumicky, another big Popteen model! She's super well known for being on so many covers. She's sometimes picked apart for being 'too cute,' or because Popteen focused on her weight loss, showing off how she went down to 83lbs.
Sadly, she has also dropped the gyaru image, announcing that she would go in a new direction, to a more mature, feminine adult. Deputy head of the magazine states they were eager to see the transformation from "gyaru, to adult."
RINA SAKURAI

Also known as Sakurina. An extremely popular model for Koakuma Ageha, she's easily recognizable for her big hair, and glamorous, agejo style. She also debuted as a singer, creating two singles! She also plays the main character in Girl's Life!
