Two random criss crossing thoughts. a)How most children(even those who grow up to original contributions to arts, science, literature) are brainwashed with the religion of their parents. b) How great men are often contradictory../1
..Take 2 examples. APK Abdul Kalam - former president of India is widely also a great scientist and father of India’s missile program- yet he was a practical muslim. Clay Christensen, celebrated management thinker and author of famous book../2
.. “The innovators dilemma” is a practicing Mormon- not only that he actually was a missionary in South Korea for some years. It is said he even refused to play Basketball on Sundays at Oxford due to his religious obligations../3
.. I do agree that ‘some’ parts of religion help in the ‘purpose of life’ department for common people, who might find the intellectualism of non-religious stoicism, Godless Buddhism, or agnostic morality’s too much../4
.. Yet organized religion tries to make lots of superstitious stuff and non-sense mainstream. It providing a sense of ‘purpose in life’ to a majority is no reason to not say this fact bluntly. ../5
.. Both Kalam and Christiansen were very intelligent men and surely mentally strong enough to not to take refuge behind organized religion. Christiansen may write lots of books to rationalize this, fact is it seems like both men../6
.. ..could not overcome the guilt they would have felt if they had dared to live without the crutches of organized religion. They were towering scientists, management thinkers, but in the department of having../7
..the courage to live on their own terms, they were just ordinary. No need to gloss over their imperfections or putting them on a pedestal. /8
