Peter F. Druckers classic

MANAGING ONESELF
Knowing when to change what you do is as important as what you do. If not more so.
History’s great achievers, have always managed themselves.

Napoleon. Da Vinci. Mozart.
Managing oneself in large part makes you a great achiever.
You need to align your strengths to where you can make the biggest contribution to become truly great achiever.
Think of your career as a 50 year long project.
6. Managing yourself = project management.

Treat yourself as a constantly changing project.
7. Most people think they know what they are good at, they are usually wrong.

This is also a fundamental principle by @WallStPlayboys

"Know what type of intelligence you have"
8. How you do something is sometimes more important than what you do.
9. "Most people think they know what their strengths are. They are usually wrong."
10. historically, people were born into professions. They never needed to know their strengths. The world has changed, jobs have changed. You need to change with it.
11. Best way to learn what your strengths are, is through feedback analysis.

I would also add that asking others their opinion of you also adds to this.

Peter suggests making actions and predicting outcomes, and then comparing results.

This is why I keep a journal.
12. side note, keeping a journal is highly underrated. the best way to integrate it into your life is to make it a habit when you wake up and go sleep, or when you finish a task, writing a quick summary, might seem laborious but when shit hits the fan can be a life saver.
13. knowledge work has proliferated since this book has written, almost everyone is in charge of their own workload now. it is vital to learn how to learn and learn how to work. With remote work increasing, the trend has only increased. you need to be able to manage yourself.
14. I will make this into another thread one day, but this is my journalling set up.

I am currently in the process of creating a google spreadsheet, to log all my data and outputs of an oura ring, which will track mood, heart, sleep and more.

What gets measured, gets improved
15. im turning my journaling into a multiple consolidated sheet, with running averages and general tracking.

journalling is a great way to "talk to yourself"
16. you are only as good as the notes you keep.
17. one overlooked aspect of any business education: manners go a long way.
18. mediocrity does not sell.
19. People are more likely to know what they are bad at rather than what they are good at. most people do not know what they are good at, very few people on earth know themselves.
20. in knowledge work, it is better to focus on your strengths rather than working on your weaknesses. it takes more effort for your weaknesses to get better to a mediocre level than it would for your strengths to get better.
21. there is no substitute for "knowledge" being "bright" is not cross applicable.

being good in one field does not automatically translate into another.
22. the first part of the book focuses HEAVILY on feedback analysis.

honestly this has saved my life, asking people feedback, showing people my work, having an iterative process. and constantly striving for better.
