When someone comes at you with the whole "But Democrats were the original racists!" stuff, I present to you a response that will shut them down.
Posted by a fellow patron of @MuellerSheWrote @dailybeanspod these are their thoughts & I'm just sharing them with you.
2/ "I’m aware of the Dixiecrats. I’m not saying the Dems weren’t the party that implemented racist policies intentionally in the past. Nor am I arguing that they are perfect now. But, currently, the Republicans are the ones pushing an agenda
3/ that disproportionately hurts people of color. They are the ones trying to prevent black people from having proportional representation in Congress. They are the ones making it as hard as possible for nonwhite people to vote.
4/
They have become the party of white supremacy, of Evangelical Christian extremism, and of corporate dominance. Dems are the party that sees how unfettered capitalism leads to income polarization and entrenchment of disadvantage,
5/
..especially among groups already multiply disadvantaged by racism and lack of opportunity. Republicans want tax cuts, deregulation, and defunding of social safety nets; all of which ends up enriching and empowering the very few at the expense of the many.
6/
The money doesn’t trickle down. Rather, the institutions that level the playing field, like education, environmental protection, health care, labor unions, and nutritional assistance get decimated. The middle class and opportunity for upward social mobility are obliterated.
7/
Power and money being concentrated at the top is self-reinforcing. Wages stagnate while housing, education, and health care costs rise. And all of this impacts black Americans harder because they have been blocked from the opportunity to build social and economic capital and
8/
...denied the safety net needed for those who can’t fall back on generational wealth when hard times hit.

I assure you that black Americans know the racist history of the Democratic Party. But now, they are the moral core of the Democratic Party.
9/
Why do you think the civil rights champions, like John Lewis, were and are Democrats now? Why do democrats have 80-90% support among black voters? Do you think people like Maxine Waters, Corey Booker, Maya Wiley, Hakeem Jeffries,
10/
...and Al Sharpton have all been duped into supporting their own subjugation? No. You need to look past the Fox News talking points. The big picture is that the policies supported by Democrats are better for everyone, except maybe the the .01%.
11/
But even there, you could make the argument that the people who would pay more taxes under Democrats would benefit in other ways from a fairer, more representative, and more politically and economically stable society."
