Even when a cause is righteous, bad things, terrible crimes even, can be commited in its name and that is why some many “great” historical leaders have been afraid of religion (and/or philosophy): because certain faith and ethics point at the truth regardless of anything.
They will say that belief makes us complacent. No! It makes us realize that even when fighting monsters, you should not go around summarily executing people indiscriminately. Even when burning everything down with righteous fire, some things, not even perfect ones, are off limits
I will not celebrate death, and I will most certainly judge those who do without at least some sort of introspection or nuance.
Nothing here means we should abandon the fight because it is complicated. It only means we have to be vigilant, even for the sake of our own soul.
