the Ryu campaign has started sending out texts to his district that are virtually *identical* to the texts we sent out a month ago, offering to connect folks with covid and housing resources
this is hilarious and unacceptable for a few reasons, the first being that the #CopyNithyaChallenge is still clearly going strong
aside from being hilarious, this decision from the Ryu campaign is also brazenly sinister. David Ryu is *in office*. he has the direct ability to be fighting for angelenos who are suffering the most right now, and he is choosing not to
this is just one of many examples (see: his laughable no cop money pledge) of Ryu wanting to appear as if he is for the people, and relying on his constituents to not actually pay attention to his actions on Council
council members like David Ryu rely on their constituents to be under-educated when it comes to local governing. they don’t want you to know how much power they have over improving or destroying your daily life. when you know, you have no choice but to hold them accountable
you know what happens when you aren’t aware of the power structures in your local governing body? you start to feel hopeless. we are facing issues nationally and locally that feel insurmountable— homelessness, climate change, achieving racial equity, the list goes on for miles
this is why civic education is at the heart of @nithyavraman’s campaign. we are fighting for full transparency for our city council, and a council that fights for the people, not corporations and cops. it’s not just possible, it’s happening on November 3rd. 🌠
