I know it’s a tradition to give em a hard time, but I actually think the @WSOP at Rio has done a good job of evolving year to year. I’d love to see the same online, so after playing a ton this month here’s a thread on changes I’d like to see:
1. Move up the start times 3 hours: Yea it’s funny to watch @depaulo_ryan close at 7am and scream at people going to work, but it’s awful unnecessary and brutal for the EC crowd. While I can’t speak for everyone’s schedule in Nevada, from 12-3pm we mostly hide from heat.
2. Extend hand for hand, reduce time-banks on bubbles: Many bubbles have become stalling contests, and it ruins the play deeper in the tournament. Average stack ITM in the $2k “deep stack” event was about 8 blinds. Everyone hates this, please make it stop.
3. Diversify the schedule by adding to it: I know the mixed-game players feel left out this year, but I don’t think every day needs to be no-limit OR mixed, it can just be both. Fields were huge, I think the liquidity and demand is there.
4. Create the option to re-enter after busting: Maybe this is an impossible software thing, but it feels like an easy one. Plenty of people would feel comfortable firing one more approaching the freeze-out stage, or when stacks are shorter.
5. Balance the structure: Less blinds early, more deep. This is partially a bubble thing, but I think starting 500+ blinds deep and an hour from antes is overkill. If possible, consider extending levels deeper in the event as often happens live.
6. Eliminate fields with limited demographics: By which I mean the seniors event, or any future ladies event. I’m all for these style of events live!...but online we can only be so confident that the person behind the computer is who they say they are.
7. Condense the Sunday schedule: I know you want to create steady volume on the site, but I think you’d do better numbers by condensing the once-a-week mega grind. For example, the $500 6-max at 9pm EC would likely do even better an hour or two earlier.
8. Don’t rake gouge: I’m sure telling a company to take less $ will go great but these kind of obvious grabs have steadily ruined poker companies relationship with their players before. What we really need here is competition in the market.
9. Finish the series on a Sunday: No explanation necessary, we all know Sunday’s the day you go big.
10. Keep limited re-entry and the improved secondary schedule: I know there’s some people saying totally cut re-entry, but I think limited re-entry finds the right balance. And I thought the secondary series running along side was great, so keep that coming!
I’m done here and got one more event to fire tonight. HMU with anything I missed, or where you disagree, and good luck on the grind 🤞
