Latest: Detroit Police Department has reportedly settled another lawsuit over a dog shooting during a drug raid.
Unlike most cases, this time there was body cam footage contradicting the cop's claim that the dogs were charging and barking at him https://reason.com/2020/07/31/detroit-police-department-settles-another-dog-shooting-lawsuit-after-video-contradicts-cops-account/

By my count, this is the fourth lawsuit payout by Detroit recent years for killing dogs during drug raids. This one was unusual, though, because an internal DPD review found the shooting wasn't justified https://reason.com/2020/07/31/detroit-police-department-settles-another-dog-shooting-lawsuit-after-video-contradicts-cops-account/
The full body cam footage is here:
Don't watch it if you're sensitive to graphic stuff, but this is what the drug war looks like.

A fun last note: When Detroit PD released the "destruction of animal" report to the plaintiff's attorney in this case, the cop's name was redacted.
Luckily, DPD had released the same documents to me months earlier with the name unredacted, so it wasn't hard to figure out.
