Judge Jones just wrapped up his hearing with the ACLU/BLM and SPD on the contempt charge. Trial set for August 26, wrapping up on September 1. The judge emphasized that he's expediting the process.
Both parties won some and lost some this morning. SPD wanted more time, up to 60 days, and didn't get it. ACLU/BLM wanted to get all 1394 body-worn camera videos, and were denied.
ACLU/BLM also tried to get Jones to modify his preliminary injunction before the trial; Jones agreed with SPD that they are really asking for a new injunction and declined to do so without going through the necessary procedural steps.
Lots of discussion over whether the scope of the charges is what ACLU/BLM alleged in their motion w/ the 20 declarations, or is broader. SPD needs to know what they are defending themselves against. ACLU/BLM must clarify by August 5.
Jones made some concluding remarks implying that he wasn't happy with either party with having to deal with contempt charges -- he said the issues before the court are enormous and they don't need to "stir the pot."
He told both attorneys to meet with their clients and tell them to try to reach resolution on the issues.
