My first stop on my Ignatian pilgrimage today: little St Ignatius Loyola in Hilltop, Charles County, Maryland. The Jesuits would come out here on horseback to celebrate Mass, and the people eventually built a church.
The pastor, a good friend of mine, has taken good care of the parish. He's putting a new backdrop to the sanctuary in too. The plans look great! We said Midday prayer together, and now I'm headed to St Ignatius at Chapel Point. St Ignatius, pray for us!
Quick stop for lunch and cream of crab soup on the Port Tobacco River.
Arrived at St Ignatius at Chapel Point, oldest continually running parish in the United States, founded by Fr Andrew White, SJ. It's where I celebrated my First Mass of Thanksgiving. The painting above the high altar is of the Vision of St Ignatius at La Storta.
Not a bad view from the front steps. The mighty Potomac!
