I think I've got to the root of my unease with all of the recent Ravelry debacle.

For years we've bought into the myth that the people who run it are our friends. It's one big cosy club we are all members of.

Except we aren't, and they aren't our friends.

They are a business
We expect businesses to behave to a certain professional standard.

None of Ravelry's recent behaviour goes anywhere near what we would tolerate from any other businesses.
But we are conditioned to accept from Ravelry because they "do things differently".

Because they are "our friends"

Bollocks to that.
They are a business and it's about time they acted like one
