A few weeks ago @RTatBHRUT @BHRUT_NHS one of our Halcyons was upgraded to a new @VarianMedSys Ethos, an on-line adaptive radiotherapy treatment system. Since then we’ve been commissioning and testing it: before we use it clinically, there’s been a lot of work to do...
We’ve been using Ethos Treatment Management to generate test plans, QA plans, and the plans of our first clinical patients.
We’ve used the @IBADosimetry Blue water phantom to measure the shape of the beam to make sure the radiotherapy dose matches what is calculated by the planning system.
We’ve used @IBADosimetry MatriXX Evolution for flatness and symmetry checks of the beam.
We’ve used @sunnuclear ArcCHECK to measure the doses of reference and clinical plans, comparing the results with the plans from Ethos Treatment Management. Here's Ewan delivering a plan to ArcCHECK.
We’ve used other “phantoms” (patient-like devices) like this CIRS pelvis phantom, here being set up by Ahmed
During on-line adaptive treatments, plan quality assurance of the new adapted plans is done by @VarianMedSys Mobius, calculating on the synthetic CT prior to treatment, and using the linac's trajectory logs after treatment.
We will be treating our first patients with Ethos next week - offering treatments that adapt to our patients, instead of asking our patients to adapt to our treatments. More news as it happens!
