As a GA reporter, I'm often producing many stories a day on varying topics. As you may have guessed, news has been a lil busy lately. Here's a thread of some things that have happened in Oregon in JUST the past week (that I worked on but was too swamped to tweet):
A Multnomah County Circuit Court judge yesterday (Thurs) issued a temporary restraining order against the city of Portland/PPB related to PPB's livestreaming of ongoing demonstrations in downtown Portland. https://www.opb.org/article/2020/07/30/multnomah-county-judge-issues-temporary-restraining-order-against-city-of-portland-police-bureau-for-protester-surveillance/
Also yesterday (Thurs), Oregon Democratic U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer and State Rep. Karin power called for an investigation into the public health and environmental impacts of chemical agents used on demonstrators in Portland. https://www.opb.org/article/2020/07/30/oregon-lawmakers-ask-for-investigation-into-health-environmental-effects-of-tear-gas/
ALSO also yesterday (Thurs) Oregon Gov. Kate Brown took Lincoln and Union counties off the state's coronavirus watchlist. (She also added Marion, Multnomah and Hood River.) https://www.opb.org/article/2020/07/30/coronavirus-oregon-washington-updates/
Demonstrators and organizers from the Lane County group, Black Unity, and Springfield Police, as well as counter-proteseters, clashed during a planned demonstration Wednesday evening resulting in injuries and multiple arrests. https://www.opb.org/article/2020/07/30/demonstrators-and-springfield-police-counter-protesters-clash-during-protest/
. @ErinEARoss & I wrote this story Wednesday: If schools opened now, 1 county could fully have in-person instruction under Oregon's new coronavirus metrics — Wheeler. (The state would also need to have a lower test positivity rate for that to even happen.) https://www.opb.org/article/2020/07/29/oregon-schools-reopen-coronavirus/
That lawsuit filed by @ACLU_OR in which the Multnomah County judge just issued a temporary restraining order against Portland/PPB for livestreaming of demonstrations? That happened on Wednesday. https://www.opb.org/article/2020/07/29/portland-police-bureau-oregon-aclu-lawsuit-surveillance/
From me and @llmiller12: Portland Public Schools' board approved a $1.2 billion bond for the November ballot Tuesday evening. https://www.opb.org/article/2020/07/29/portland-public-schools-bond-measure-november-2020/
Moral of the story is THERE IS TOO MUCH NEWS. (And these are just some stories IIIIII worked on! There is STILL MORE NEWS THAN THIS!)
