July 31, 1987 - we lived in Evergreen Trailer Park. My Dad was at work while my mother and I were at home, in our trailer. My Mom talks about how humid it was the days leading up to the tornado. I had an opportunity to talk to her about it a few weeks ago. 1/x
She said that we had let a friend store a travel trailer in our driveway and when she looked out the window, the travel trailer kept moving up and down, off the ground. She didn't kno what was going on so grabbed me, hid us between the couch and cushions. 2/x
She described the sound it made as the same as when you unplug an air compressor hose from the compressor, but constant. When it was over, our trailer was, remarkably, still standing and only had the skirting ripped off. The trailers around ours were gone. 3/x
Mom mentioned that she dropped me off with a neighbor and went to check on others and one person's trailer was completely gone and Mom asked if he was okay. He responded with "I need a f**cking cigarette". (No doubt!!). 4/x
They locked down the trailer park so when my Dad got word about the tornado, him and my uncles drove over to the park. They wouldn't let him in and didn't give him any information. They all almost got arrested for trying to force their way into the park. 5/x
We were brought to a safe place and that is where my Dad found us. My Mom never went back to the trailer park and is still (understandably) terrified of storm. When I was 13, we moved to a house with a bomb shelter and she used to make us sleep in there when it stormed. 6/x
My Dad's name is Tony Freeman. 7/x
