A look at Livingston FC, forward, Lyndon Dykes. The Gold Coast born target man is reportedly subject to a £1m offer from @SkyBetChamp club #barnsleyfc He’s also been mooted as potential replacement for Morelos should the Colombian depart #RangersFC #PNE also a rumoured suitor….
The 24r old, powerful, front man completed his first full season at @LiviFCOfficial in 19/20 scoring 12 goals and making 10 goal assists from 32 appearances in all comps. 9 of those goals coming in the #SPFL from 7.9 xG. Usually utilised as a lone forward in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1
Whilst his numbers are not exactly blistering, it must be caveated that playing for Livingston who finished 5th last term generally averaged less than 45% possession & created only 1.3xG per90 with an average of only 4 shots per90 on target - Not one of the leagues big hitters!

Above, his 19/20 heat map shows he favours dropping off short & pulling defenders out with him to operate in the channels where he can then link play before making darting runs in behind in anticipation of getting shots off or playing cute balls around the corner for a teammate.
Physicality & dynamism are impressive going both ways. He is industrious without the ball and sets the tone for his teammates from the front. Livi don’t tend to press cohesively, but #lyndondykes is aggressive & committed, not allowing opposition players to settle on the ball
Besides his impressive work rate and endeavour, he has shown himself to be an improving player in front of goal. Whilst he will inevitably lead with his stronger R in the main, he has developed the confidence to attempt shots at goal with his weaker L, albeit with mixed results
Manager, Gary Holt, described him as “a good athlete with a little bit of everything”. In terms of his ability in the final 3rd that would be supported by the next few clips. again, whilst the confidence is there to try things in front of goal, he lacks the application at times
He even bagged a ‘perfect hat-trick’ in December against @RossCounty in the @spfl
His towering physique, mobility and obvious upper body strength make him a very genuine aerial threat in front of goal. Vs #CelticFC he gave their central defender Christopher Jullien a torrid time October. Some of his headed attempts at goal in 19/20:
As mentioned above, whilst he is developing into an all-round CF, he needs to be more clinical & make better decisions in front of goal if he is to move onto play in the @SkyBetChamp or even if he was to be picked up by a top end @SkyBetLeagueOne club
Many clubs In England were linked with #Dykes in the previous winter window including #dcfc #LUFC #Middlesbrough & #Blackburn . With 20/21 #SPFL due to start this weekend it’s going to be a nervy time for @LiviFCOfficial trying to hang onto their prized asset.
This thread is meant purely as brief insight into Lyndon Dykes & his playing style. Whilst taking a brief look at his qualities and perceived short comings. It should not be considered as a thorough scouting report of the player, there are many more facets to his game.
I would welcome any thoughts on this piece from anyone, even if you disagree with my thoughts
