I just want Beyonce to engage with Blackness outside of this desire to use capitalism as a safety net. What does her Blackness means when she can’t be draped in gold and riches? Does it still exist?
But these are questions we ask of many artists, and we never get answers that don’t feel forced and overdone. So, I’ll enjoy the visuals, but just know that if you can only imagine Blackness within this capitalistic framework, then there’s not much imagining being done.
And most importantly, there are not many people who can truly resonate with this imagining. So many of us will never have access to riches like that, in this world. No matter how much we dream. I appreciate the encouragement to manifest, I just want a sense of realism too.
