🔥🔥🔥WEEKLY DATA UPDATE ON MASKING
New data on the masking efforts one (damn) state/city/co./institution at a time we've been pushing in absence of national policy.

By Aug. 1, if current policies hold, nearly 75% of US population will be under some masking mandate. 1/
First, a background on the effort to push masking policies in cities/states/etc, the good data people, and what is being monitored.

Major developments this week: Wisconsin to Level 2 (first change for state since May 13 court ruling but the Supreme Court is hostile so standby); Michigan ratchets up; Vermont (who predicted!) expansion. 3/
and South Carolina (at last!) will issue new EO on August 3rd. We don't know nature of EO yet so data not reflected here. So, in summary. . . 4/
By 8/1, nearly 75% of the US by population are under a statewide policy requiring masks or face coverings in at least indoor settings broadly, if not also in outdoor settings where distancing of at least 6 ft is not possible. This equates to 31 states plus DC. 5/
Lots of variations, details, city rules, etc.

Of course, a national policy is necessary. Leadership is wanting.
But we respond with the hand we are dealt and we don't do hope. None of this is ideal, obviously.
But nearly 75% of US population is not nothing. 6/6
